Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The Present Continuous describes actions happening exactly at this moment or temporary situations using 'be' and '-ing'.
- Use 'am/is/are' + verb + '-ing' for actions happening now, like 'I am eating'.
- Add 'not' after 'be' for negatives, like 'She is not sleeping'.
- Move 'be' to the start for questions, like 'Are they playing?'.
What Is the Present Continuous?
The Present Continuous (also called Present Progressive) describes an action that is happening right now, at this moment. Think of it like pausing a video — what do you see? That's the Present Continuous!

Stative Verbs — Don't Use These in Continuous!
Some verbs describe states (feelings, thoughts, possession) — not actions. We usually don't use them in the continuous form.
